Born in Richmond, VA
Darrick Claiborne
points to the early influence of. His junior high school teacher Winston
B. Fletcher, who took an interest in his work. Mr. Fletcher taught him how
to tap into his creativity. The result has been award winning work.
Starting with a number of regional and national scholastic art awards. It
has led to an impressive resume of exhibitions and awards. “People are
the primary subjects of my work. My goal is to portray the emotion and
movement of the subject(s) in the painting in an ‘in your face’ way that
you feel that you are participating in their activity. My paintings are
seen completed in my dreams and then I will create the vision from my
dream.” Those dreams have produced a portfolio featured in Paint
Magazine, at the JVC Jazz Festival in New York City, and a number of
other group and solo exhibitions on the East Coast. Darrick Claiborne’s
start continues to rise in his craft.
